Norfleet, 30, an English Language Arts teacher at Maize High School, was wounded in the 400 block of South Vassar the night of Saturday, September 27. According to Wichita police, Norfleet went outside after seeing the teen rummaging through his car.
The teen fired a weapon, striking Norfleet, who then returned fire, hitting the 15-year-old. Both were transported to a local hospital in critical condition.
After being released from the hospital, the unidentified 15-year-old was booked into the Sedgwick County Juvenile Detention Facility on charges of attempted second-degree murder, aggravated battery, burglary to auto, and juvenile in possession of a firearm.
A GoFundMe has raised more than $40,000 to help Norfleet’s family with medical expenses and recovery costs.
